Meet the Coaches

Head Coach-Dave Eichenhorn

After years in the water training under National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association Hall of Famer Mike Lane, and a decade-plus spent on deck coaching, Dave joins BVSC this summer. Previously, while coach at Birmingham Groves High School, swimmers garnered 142 All-State Awards, 34 All-America Awards and 19 individual state titles. During his tenure, the boy’s and girl’s teams combined for 13 top-five finishes, three runner-up finishes and a boy’s title in 2010 at the Division II High School State Championships. In his time at Pine Lake Country Club, swimmers set 36 club records and six league records. The Penguins compiled a dual meet record of 41 wins and 8 losses and won two league championships

Head Assistant Coach-Rachel Paul

Rachel Paul is currently attending Oakland University where she is studying Nursing. She began swimming for the Beechview Breakers when she was 13 and right away fell in love with the sport. In high school she swam on the Harrison Girls Swim Team. Her favorite events were 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Rachel began her coaching career last year as the assistant coach for the Harrison Girls Swim Team and then assistant coaching the Harrison-Farmington Phoenix Boys Swim Team last year and this past year. Rachel is excited to be coaching at Beechview again. She is looking forward to helping younger swimmers learn to love this sport as much as she does and seeing all the progress everyone makes this summer while having lots of fun in the process. Assistant Coach-Drew Hinckley

Drew Hinckley just completed his freshman year at Saginaw Valley State University, where he is a member of the swim and dive team. He started swimming for Beechview when he was six years old and continued swimming in high school for the Harrison-Farmington Phoenix and club with Drop Aquatics. For the Phoenix, Drew was All-State in the 100 Freestyle and was a member of two All-American freestyle relays.  

Assistant Coach-Danielle Nykanen 

Danielle Nykanen attended Harrison High School and has competitively swam for 12 years on both FFYS (Farmington Family YMCA Stingrays) and the Beechview Breakers. She also swam on the Harrison-Farmington Varsity swim team all four years of high school. In the fall she will be continuing her swim career at Alma College. She has taught swim lessons at the Costick Activities Center for two years and volunteered as a coach at Beechivew last summer. 

Assistant Coach- Timmy Page 

Timmy Page is a freshman at Williams College and is pursuing a Liberal Arts degree with a Psychology major and Public Health minor. He started swimming for the Pine Lake Penguins at the age of six. Through inspiration from his coaches and friends, Timmy pursued excellence in swimming and fell in love with the sport. Timmy swam at Brother Rice High School where he was a member of three Division 1 State Championship teams. Also, he was a member of an All-American medley relay and was All-State in the 100 Backstroke. Timmy now swims at Williams College and was a member of the championship-winning NESCAC Conference Team.
